We the people of Karnataka wanted a change. Congress government was inefficient and useless in every field for last 5 years. So people of Karnataka opted for BJP party.
The question of fulfilling expectations of people arises if BJP was given chance to form the government. Congress party had only given scams so people opted BJP for a change.
Although it would be interesting to see how it will effect the national level election of 2019.
The majority was supposed to be 112 MLA support out of 224 MLAs in the recent elections of Karnataka to form the government. But no single party was able to get the majority. The following is the seat share in Karnataka elections 2018 :
Soon after the karnataka election results, the congress party supported JDS to form the government. so they became 115+2 and could form the government.
BJP being the majority asked governor’s permission to form government since they never had majority, after that congress and JDS went to Governor for seeking permission to form the government.
The Governor gave first priority to BJP as it is wish of Governor as mentioned in the Constitution of India to form the government and prove it’s majority. BJP asked for 7 days to prove the majority. Congress went to supreme court claiming that they are in majority and they have the rights to form the government. Supreme court couldn’t stop oath taking ceremony as they can’t stop governor’s order and hence will discuss the situation the next day.
The following day Yedyurappa took oath as chief minister of Karnataka. But when court started hearing the case again , they told BJP doesn’t have the majority & court said it cannot allow BJP to attract other MLAs through other means like paying money or offering something to attract other party MLAs.
Also the supreme court said , Governor cannot give time period of 15days to prove majority and saying that today 19th May 2018 by 4pm BJP should show majority to form the government. This proving of majority in assembly is called floor test.
As Yedyurappa failed to prove majority on floor in assembly had to give resignation. Now its turn for Kumarswamy to prove majority & he is also supposed to do floor test which will be decided by Governor.
So BJP still has the chance to attract other MLAs through other means like paying money or offering something, if BJP gives up sincerely hoping of getting sympathy from people then Kumarswamy will continue as CM of Karnataka.
